ABOUT
I am a native English speaker with a Bachelor's degree in Latin and English from Nottingham University, where I was also editor of the student magazine. I speak basic Italian, Spanish and French. A decade working at Heffers Booksellers in Cambridge taught me about everything from customer service to bookselling and publishing. And 10 years as part of the Development Office at St John's College, Cambridge, involved creating high-quality publications for the College.
In my spare time
When I'm not working with words or managing my animal charity, I love power walking, cardio dancing, nature and mindfulness. And I am adopted mum to three beautiful rescue cats: Pablo, Huey and Martha.
MY EXPERIENCE
My first job after graduating from Nottingham University was at Heffers Booksellers, Cambridge, the perfect environment for a bookworm to learn about everything from customer service to bookselling, marketing and publishing. Then, as Publications Officer at St John's College, Cambridge, my job was to produce high-quality literature, which required thoroughness, flexibility and ninja-like organisation and communication skills. Since I created Perfect Words in 2009, I have worked as a freelance proofreader and copy-editor on projects with publishers, universities, colleges, charities, businesses, book authors, students and academics. I am an Intermediate-Level Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and committed to continuing professional development. My training and experience mean I will bring precision, clarity and consistency to your academic project, book draft, blog, brochure, website or report. Whatever you have written, I will clean it up and make sure it looks its very best.
Running an animal charity
I am passionate about animals and our beautiful planet. Eager to make a difference, in 2008 I created The Sanctuary Angels, a small voluntary organisation that educates people about cruelty-free living while raising vital funds for animals and their rescuers around the world. Running the charity means I practise my writing, proofreading and editing every day: I co-manage our Facebook page and created our website, which I keep up to date. I also create the educational material for our campaigns. You can read about our work here: thesanctuaryangels.com.
